There are three graphic areas of cursive writing:
upper area ( the blue sky ),
middle area ( the green lawn ),
lower zone ( the brown earth ).
It is essential that, from the beginning of learning, the child has rigorous indications on the occupation of the graphic areas of each single letter, to orient himself in the spaces with awareness and precision.

Prato area
Of course, all the letters walk along the middle area of the lawn, where the trunk of our tree rests. Some move only in this area:
a, c, e, i, m, n, o, r, s, u, v, z.
Area of the Sky
Some letters leap upwards, reaching the upper area of the sky, where the tree extends its crown.
They are the letters: b, d, h, l, t.
Earth area
Other letters go down, occupying the lower area of the earth, where the tree sinks its very long roots.
They are the letters g, p, q.
All 3 Zones
Only a letter runs first on the lawn, then flies into the sky and then sinks into the earth and finally resurfaces again on the surface:
the letter f.
How and when to use these notebooks
The use of notebooks with colored graphic areas is highly recommended at the beginning of each school cycle and in all those cases in which, in graphics, the child shows to be disoriented and not yet master of the spatial coordinates referred to the graphic signs.
If the child is well oriented in the graphic space from the beginning of his learning, he will be able to move with ease whatever the size of the ruling or the square on which he will be writing, without the aid of reference colors.

1st Grade Lined Notebook
In 1st grade, the coloring of the three graphic zones offers the child a good possibility of orientation and movement, inviting him to inscribe each letter within precise boundaries.
2nd and 3rd Grade Lined Notebook
In 2nd and 3rd grade, the notebooks with colored lines accompany the child in consolidating the correct occupation of the graphic areas. The use of traditional 3rd grade lines is strongly discouraged as, presenting significant disproportions between one area and another, they force the child to drastically reduce the size of the letters in the middle area in favor of excessive elongation of the temples and buttonholes both in the upper and lower areas ..
Lined notebook of 4th and 5th grade
At the beginning of the 4th and 5th grade, the notebooks with colored lines accompany the child to orient himself in the reduction of the spaces occupied by the letters in a single line and a half. Therefore, the area that for the 1st grade corresponded to that of the lawn will be occupied by sky and lawn, while the area that corresponded to the earth will be halved.
1st Grade Squared Notebook
The 1 cm square is suitable only for writing in capital letters and facilitates, due to its size, the first steps of the child in learning. It allows, in fact, to facilitate it in tracing the constitutive movements of capital letters with precise references.
2nd and 3rd Grade Squared Notebook
In 2nd and 3rd grade the picture is 5 mm. The squared notebooks with colored graphic areas are an excellent aid for the cursive writing of the child in all those subjects in which a squared notebook is required.
4th and 5th Grade Squared Notebook
Starting from the 4th grade, it is possible to introduce the use of the 4 mm square. As in the case of the squared notebooks with colored graphic areas for the 2nd and 3rd grade, also these for the 4th and 5th grade, are an excellent aid for the cursive writing of the child in all those subjects in which it is required. a squared notebook.
